Comments: The Harper government has put maternal health on the agenda for the G8 and G20 summits. Officially omitted from the program for discussion were abortion funding in development aid and climate change. Kasari Govender is the Legal Director of the West Coast Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF). She walks me through the complicated international human rights law surrounding G8/G20 policy.

Comments: While the G8 and G20 Summits have come to Ontario, Vancouver was a site of these organizations' PR reach. The G8 University Summit took place May 20-22nd. It was met with protest and responding police violence and arrests. We spoke with Alex Mah from the Vancouver Community Mobilization Network about the role of this Summit in legitimizing the G8 agenda.

Comments: While some of Canadian civil society has superficially been granted access within the G8 and G20 Summits, others remain locked outside. In Vancouver, the Vancouver Community Mobilization Network has been organizing a protest for June 26th in solidarity with marchers in Toronto. Marla Renn organizes with that network and she joined us to discuss why people decide to protest the G8 and G20.
I began by asking her about public opinion concerning the G8/G20.
