Description: Good afternoon one and all! Boy oh boy oh boy oh boy am I excited I have to tell you! This show turns 1 year old; this is the 1 year old anniversary show. WOW! when I think of where I started 1 year ago and where this show has come in just 1 short year, I can only thank all those who gave of their time to come on the show . You see folks, this show was started for one reason only and that is to inspire students to take action and indeed you will be inspired by our guests this afternoon. I work on this show completely alone, so if there is any problem, any technical problems, it all comes right back to me. The buck virtually stops here. This show is completely unfunded except for the spare change I find in my pocket and I kid you not.
The guests on this show come on for a single reason: that's because they care. This is not a show that is on a high profile public network with tons of researchers, producers, technicians and..an actual budget, where the guests are guaranteed to sell a zillion books. The guests that come on this show come on for one reason only and that's because, they too, want to inspire students who are listening right now right around the country and around the world to take action. Our guests in the next two series of shows are testament to that.
3 Nobel Peace Laureates. They are part of The Nobel Women's Initiative. In part of this two part series Jody Williams and Shirin Ebadi. Jody Williams was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 for her work on banning landmines. There is a huge Canadian connection in this story as well which includes visionary work by MP Lloyd Axeworthy.
Shirin Ebadi 2003 Nobel Peace Prize for her ongoing work for human rights inside Iran
Mairead Maguire 1976 Nobel peace Prize for her work to bring about peace in Northern Ireland
There was something exceedingly profound about all three Nobel laureates and that is they all started their work alone. And momentum built and built and built. They challenged themselves they challenge us all. Jody Williams "It pisses me off to hear people whine about the world. Don't whine, don't waste your energy. Just take the beer and sit in front of the TV. People have no trouble sitting in front of the television for hours or going shopping. Give up an hour and go change the world"
