Jennifer Moreau caught up with Lawrence Hill, an award-winning Canadian author. His acclaimed novel, The Book of Negroes, follows the life of an 11-year-old African girl in the 1700s. She was kidnapped from her village in Mali and sold into slavery.
Hill was in Vancouver, speaking at a fundraising event on Oct. 14 for Canadian Crossroads International. Hill has volunteered with the organization on aid projects in West Africa.
Here he is, speaking on Canadian black history, writing and 21st century slavery.
