Program Title: Terra Informa - Season 8, Episode 27 - Northern Gateway Pipeline Special
Description: To build their controversial pipeline, Calgary Energy Company Enbridge will have to cross the territories of forty first nations. Unfortunately for Enbridge, these nations for the most part have registered staunch opposition to the development, despite the offer of millions of dollars in compensation. Just last month, the co-ordinator of the Yinka Dene Alliance, which speaks on behalf of a number of first nations, called Enbridge’s offer an “insult”. In June of last year, Terra Informa investigated some aboriginal perspectives in an effort to understand why opposition is so strong. David Kaczan filed this report.
Terra Informa correspondent Myles Curry takes a look at the No Tanks campaign, based out of Vancouver, that is building community opposition to increased oil tanker traffic along Canada’s west coast.
Andy Read is going to take a critical look at the economics and politics of Canada’s petroleum market and where the Northern Gateway Pipeline fits in.
And finally, continuing our focus on the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline, Terra Informa takes a detailed look at the potential environmental impacts of this project.
