Program Title: Canada's Complicity in Torture
Description: In late October of this year, in Ottawa, Stop Canadian Involvement in Torture organized CSI Ottawa, a 3 day walking caravan tour of the sites in the nation’s capital where Canada is implicated in torture of its citizens and torture renditions. The tour included stops at the prime minister's office, parliament hill, CSIS, starbucks and many embassies on Sussex drive. The tour caravan had 30 people on it, including Abdullah Almalki and Muayyed Nureddin, two Canadian citizens who were tortured in Syria with the complicity and knowledge of the Canadian government. These men and their supporters were demanding that the Canadian government apologies for their role in tortures, provide reparations, recognize their role in the torture of these and many other Canadian citizens and the enactment of the recommendations made in the O’Connor and Yakabouchi commissions of inquiry into torture.
