Program Title: Endeavours - profiling Ai Weiwei
Description: Gregg Allman got his start in the music industry as the singer, keyboardist and occasional guitarist in "The Allman Brothers Band", started with his late brother Duane. Having been elected to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as winning numerous lifetime achievement awards, Gregg chronicles it all in his new memoir "My Cross To Bear". What does he think of the music industry today? How did drugs affect his musical ability? He talks that and more.
Alison Klayman is the director of Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry, a new documentary that follows Chinese dissident since his release from detention in 2011. Never Sorry opens in his studio compound in Beijing, called 258 Fake, home to 40 cats, and follows him from the development of his piece where he researched and posted the names of student victims of the May 2008 earthquake in Sichuan.
The Sichuan Earthquake Names Project involves more than 50 volunteers and researchers collecting the names of the deceased students in Sichuan province towns, people Ai culled from his blog on Sina.com. On May 12, 2009, on the one-year anniversary of the disaster, Ai finishes posting the over 5,000 names. Two and a half weeks later, Ai's blog is shut down by Chinese authorities, and two days later, Ai joins Twitter. And so it begins.
The film won a special jury prize at the 2012 Sundance Festival.
Dala is a folk duo from Toronto, consisting of best friends Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther. In the midst of their seemingly endless three-year tour, they released their fourth studio album Best Day.
