Program Title: The CJSR Edition - Woody Guthrie at 100 (Part 1)
Description: Woodrow Wilson "Woody" Guthrie was born in Okemah, Oklahoma on July 14, 1912 — 100 years ago.
The Dustbowl Troubadour was known for both his musicianship and activism, and his song "This Land is Your Land" has now become the most well known folk song of all time.
This episode of the CJSR Edition — part one of a two part series on the life, times and legacy of Guthrie — takes an in-depth look at what Guthrie's legacy is as a musician and activist. Then, in the second half of the program, we present a keynote speech given by author Robert Santelli about the world's most famous folk song. The speech was apart of the 'Woody at 100: The Guthrie Legacy" conference hosted by the University of Alberta's folkwaysAlive! on August 9th, 2012.
