Program Title: Women on Air: Oct 24 2012
Description: This two part episode starts with Jana Juniper G’s interview with Lynn Fairweather, a domestic violence expert from the United States. Lynn Fairweather talks about the pressing situation in the US regarding the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which provides funding to prevent and respond to violence against women. VAWA is approaching its expiration date, and for the first time since it was passed in 1994 VAWA will potentially not be renewed.

The movement to protect BC’s Coastline from oil spills is the topic of our second segment. Trisha House interviews Sherry Kirkvold, a naturalist who for years has given eco-tours along the BC coast. Recently, she’s been working the with Raincoast Conservation Foundation as the editor of a timely book, entitled Canada’s Raincoast at Risk: Artists for an Oil Free Coast. Sherry discusses how this book demonstrates a need to oppose increased tanker traffic on the North West Coast. We also hear samples of the writing, poetry and art that are part of Canada’s Raincoast at Risk: Artists for an Oil Free Coast.
