Program Title: Latin Waves interviews Idle No More's Nina Wilson, Raul Burbano Common Frontiers
Description: The Idle No More movement began as a string of emails as four women from Saskatchewan- Jessica Gorden, Sylvia Mc Adam, Nina Wilson and Sheelah McLean got together and decided to make a ‘sincere effort to make some change.’ The context for their resolution was the Canadian Bill C-45; the government’s omnibus budget implementation bill that includes changes to land management on the reservations. It attacks the land base reserved for Indigenous people and removes protection for hundreds of waterways and weakens Canada’s environmental laws all in one volley.

In this segment of Latin Waves, Sylvia Richardson interviews Nina Wilson on the Idle No More Movement, Nina speaks of the long term struggle for autonomy that Aboriginal Peoples have sustained, and asserts the core values of Idle No More "We are here to ensure the land, the waters, the air, and the creatures and indeed each of us, return to balance and discontinue harming each other and the earth."

We also interview Raul Burbano who is an activist with Common Frontiers

A Peoples' Social Forum across Canada is scheduled for January 26 and 27th as a means of stimulating dialogue and organize collective action across provinces and communities. Moving forward a social movement that's from the bottom up and supported by progressive institutions across Canada, Québec and Indigenous communities. On this program Latin Waves host Sylvia Richardson speaks to Raul Burbano about the existing struggles for social justice and the possibilities collectively and collaboratively created by Idle No More, the student movement, occupy, labour and environmental movements across Canada. The immediate goal is to repeal the Conservative agenda of austerity and privatization but the long-term goal is to help transform the current political, economic and social paradigm, by employing creative resistance while proposing alternatives solutions.

All are welcome to participate, It's in Ottawa on Jan 26th and 27th
