Program Title: Fitting Into Paradise - Newcomer Experiences
Description: Host Michael Mehta interviews several women on the island who have recently joined the community on Gabriola Island, BC, Canada.
Moving to a new place is never easy and the challenges associated with relocating to a small, semi-rural, island community can be daunting for some. Not only is there a new set of social norms and expectations that come into play, but newcomers often have to develop many new skillsets including how to light a fire, manage water levels, septic systems, and so on.
Some adapt well and end up being happy and integrated members of our community. Unfortunately , others find the challenges too difficult - and perhaps driven by isolation and confusion - end up leaving the island.
Host(s): Michael Mehta
Featured Speakers/Guests: Elly Hallam, Barb Russell, Joanna Vandenberg, Linda George, Pat Chapman, Rhonda Bruce, and Sharon Pattison.
