Program Title: JAM Live! Episode 10 - Trent Severn
Description: Trent Severn is a trio from Stratford, Ontario comprised of indie songster Emm Gryner, the multi-talented Dayna Manning and violin whiz/songbird Laura C. Bates.
Emm Gryner is an acclaimed singer-songwriter with several albums to her credit. She won the Canadian Music Publisher’s Songwriting scholarship, the Radiostar Songwriting Contest and has been nominated 3 times for a Juno Award. She was a member of David Bowie’s touring band when she was just 25 years old.
Dayna Manning has released three solo records, one Juno-nominated. Her records includes feature appearances by Sean Ono Lennon and Red Hot Chili Pepper's Chad Smith. Manning has toured the country with 54-40, Joe Cocker, Burton Cummings and opened for Radiohead.
Laura C. Bates is the first violinist to receive a Bachelor in Jazz and Contemporary Music from Humber College. Her career highlights include performances at Massey Hall, The Glenn Gould Studio, live on CBC Radio, and four national tours. She takes joy in fiddling everywhere from concert halls to camp fires.
Gryner and Manning have been co-billing a stage since the very beginnings of their careers. As a teenager, Manning wrote her very first song “A Walk On the Moon”, the song that launched her musical career, while babysitting Laura C. Bates in her childhood home.
Trent Severn has garnered a slew of rave reviews, nods from the likes of Burton Cummings and appeared on CBC’s “Q”. The plaid clad musicians were even featured in the March 24th issue of the iconic MacLean’s Magazine. But if you ask the trio what takes the cake, it was a call mid set from Commander Chris Hadfield on the International Space Station which came patched through the soundboard to their sold out Goderich, Ontario show. The band also performed with Commander Hadfield on Canada Day 2013 in Ottawa.
The trio counts Canadian legends Joni Mitchell, Stan Rogers, and Spirit of the West among their influences, and that's reflected in their sound and songs
Trent Severn released their self-titled 10-track debut album in 2012. Their second album is scheduled for release in November 2013.
We recorded Trent Severn in July 2013 at the St. Elias Centre in Haines Junction, Yukon.
