Current Situation in South Sudan

Description: We speak with Gerald Horne about the current unrest in South Sudan. The conflict has been addressed in mainstream media as "ethnic conflict," though this is a misrepresentation that does not consider the historical context of the conflict. We also speak with Dr. Horne about the peace talks and the larger context of the the Sudan/South Sudan border conflict.

Dr. Gerald Horne currently holds the John J. and Rebecca Moores Chair of History and African American Studies at the University of Houston. In the 1980's he was a mediator of the civil war in Sudan. Dr. Horne is the author of over 20 books, most recently "Mau Mau in Harlem? The US and the Liberation of Kenya" and "The End of Empires: African Americans and India" and forthcoming "The Counter-Revolution of 1776: Slave Resistance and the Origins of the United States of America"
