The first half of the show features Gabriele Hardt one of the authors in the anthology, Beyond the Journey: Women's Stories of Settlement and Community Building in Canada. Gabrielle immigrated to Canada as a child from Germany in the 1950's. She talks about her experiences being an immigrant in Canada and her work in community building. She was the first president of the staff association at York University and was a leading force in their unionization.

The second half of the show of is an excerpt from a public lecture presented here at Uvic. It is from the Lansdowne Lecture Series featuring Dr. Wendy Brown, first chair of political science at UC Berkeley, on the topic of The Demos Undone: Neoliberalism, Democracy, Citizenship. The excerpt focuses on the 'economization' of education and how neoliberalism has become normalized in the daily lives of citizens.
