Program Title: WINGS #20-15 Telling the Pope
Description: A conference titled Women in the Catholic Church: What Francis Needs to Know calls on the Pope to put women's equality on his pulpit. Feminist theologians and ecumenical leaders gathered July 25, 2015 in Chicago Illinois, to discuss women's roles in Catholicism and share their visions for a future Catholic Church that grants women equal rights—-that ordains women priests, supports women's access to reproductive health care, provides equal pay in the Catholic Church and supports same sex marriage.
Program ends with a satirical song.
Host(s): Christina Aanestad
Featured Speakers/Guests: Patricia Miller, author of Good Catholics: The Battle over Abortion in the Catholic Church; Katie Breslin, Program Associate with Catholics for Choice; Marianne Duddy-Burke, Executive Director of DignityUS, a non profit organization for gay and lesbian Catholics; Laura Singer with Equal Opportunity for Ordination; Trish Sullivan Vanni, Director of The Emerging Models of Pastoral Leadership Project, a research initiative in ministry; Project; Susan Ross, Professor of Theology at Loyola University, in Chicago.
Credits: Audio provided by the organizers; edited for WINGS by Christina Aanestad. Series producer, Frieda Werden. Song: "I Didn't Come From Your Rib (You Came from My Vagina" courtesy of the composer/performer, Lauren Mayer. Found on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiHx2EkMsDA
Comments: CONTENT ADVISORY: the program ends with a satirical song that uses the terms vagina and uterus. They are used in the biological sense with respect to birth, not sex, but if this is problematic, please cut the end of the program from 25:56
