Mack MacKenzie has worked with the LGBTQ community for over a decade in various capacities but primarily as a facilitator with the Saint John Chapter of PFLAG Canada and co-creator of the National "Communities Encourage Campaign". He has served as President of the UNBSJ Q Collective (a student run organisation for the social, educational and advocacy of LGBTQ students, faculty and staff at UNBSJ) as well as member of the executive of Port City Rainbow Pride Inc.. Mack is past chair of two Pride weeks in Saint John and the former chair of the largest Pride parade in New Brunswick (second largest in the Maritimes). Mack is the founder and creator of the Rainbow Peace March which has, since 2005, commemorated the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (held each year on May 17th). He has volunteered with various service organisations including as President of Symphony New Brunswick. Presently he sits on the board of the Saint John Suicide Prevention Committee and the provincial committee to establish a New Brunswick transgender healthcare professionals’ network. He was educated at the Atlantic Canadian Centre for Studies in Funeral Services, studied sociology at UNBSJ and completed the post degree programme in social work at St. Thomas University. He has written articles for Wayves Magazine (the Atlantic Canadian magazine for the LGBTQ community and its allies), has been interviewed by the Toronto Xtra! Magazine, the Globe and Mail, Telegraph-Journal and Fredericton Gleaner as well as CTV, Global News, CBC Television and CBC radio. A former licensed funeral director and licensed embalmer, Mack works as a social worker in New Brunswick.
