Description: The NCRA in collaboration with CHUO and UN Women are proud to to release the completed audio from a round-table discussion with Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka - Executive Director, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.

She was in Ottawa to meet with Prime Minister Trudeau and other Canadian officials, as well as tour to Toronto and Waterloo on Tuesday and Wednesday. Fortunately, she offered us the opportunity to meet and discuss community radio and social justice issues we face here in Canada on Monday June 6th at 10am.

Executive Director Mlambo-Ngcuka spoke with women broadcasters who represent small, large, community, rural and First Nations broadcasting and activists around the areas that they focus on. Topics include global issues regarding gender equality – including the economic empowerment of women and girls (unpaid care burden, gender pay gap), ending violence against women (health issues such as Zika), engaging constituencies such as men and boys, the private sector, the youth, in the fight for gender equality, progress on women’s rights so far and the huge gaps that remain, what strategies are working, etc.
