Program Title: WINGS #45-17 Kenyan Women's Political Rights
Description: Kenya's 2010 Constitution says neither gender may hold more than 2/3 of the seats in any elected body. As of 2017, the struggle is still on for women to get their share. Sauti ya Wanawake - Pwani (The Voice of Women Organization) has been training women to run for public office. Between the 2013 and 2017 national elections, they saw real progress, but women faced party neglect, sexism, insults and sometimes violence, and apparent corruption of the process. They held a recent meeting to study what went wrong for women who lost in the Coastal Region of Kenya.

Host(s): Diana Wanyonyi and Frieda Werden.
Featured Speakers/Guests: Beldine Otieno is programmes officer in charge of governance at the Voice of Women Organization. Esha Nizar vied for the women representative seat from Lamu County, as a member of a political party; Victoria Dume vied for women representative in Kilifi County, as an independent. Neither won. Ann Waiguru spoke on television when she won the race for Govenor of Kirinyaga County, in Central Kenya.
