Description: This episode of Routes & Branches & Beyond is called "Hail Smiling Morn - a Few Songs of Christmas." And that about sums it up. I play some recent releases in the genre, including from bands like Rum Ragged, Fretboard Journey and Eric Clapton (yes, he just released a Christmas album... next will be the kids' album...). I also do a couple of special segments on UK Village carols (or "pub carols," as they are sometimes called), which are a body of "disturbingly exuberant" carols that the Victorian churches banished from their sanctuaries. So they ended up being sung in pubs. There may be a lesson there somewhere.
