Cally Wesson, George Pitman talk about Variety and the work to help kids and their families in BC

Description: It doesn’t seem that long ago when George Pitman came to see me at CFOX FM to ask if our radio station was interested in helping Variety Club build a children’s water park in Vancouver. Like the $100.00 dollars George talked me out of during this interview, his warmth and persuasion allowed us to help build a kid’s water park that is still there today.

In 1927, the original Variety Club was formed by 11 businessmen involved in the entertainment industry. This group discovered an abandoned baby in one of their theaters in Pittsburgh and banded together to raise her as a team. This alliance developed into an organization that puts children first and, today, now boasts 43 chapters in 11 countries. Here in British Columbia, a chapter was established in 1966 with the focus on children who have special needs throughout the province.

As a father of five, its been almost impossible to say no to George over the years, or any of the amazing team that work or volunteer at Variety The Children’s Charity as they strive to help families put smiles on thousand’s of kids in British Columbia.

Cally Wesson, Variety’s CEO joins George in this episode of The Conversation Lab as they talk about the work of Variety, its challenges and opportunities, and share some heart warming stories about British Columbia’s Kids.
