Program Title: Fit to Eat: the NL Farm and Food Show, episode 53
Description: This time on "Fit to Eat," we head back to the Agriculture University of Iceland for another show. At every step, we learn how the situation in Newfoundland and Labrador is somewhat similar to that in Iceland - in terms of the challenges around local food production, the need for secondary production, and the crucial imperative to stop importing so much of what is required for survival and sustainability. We may be making somewhat different choices, at points, but Iceland and NL were separated at birth. After all, the first farmers in NL were Icelanders - Vikings, who travelled with farm animals, in order to have food for sustenance. Too bad they only stayed for about three years, and then left. Otherwise, we'd be eating skyr and ptarmigan and speaking in Icelandic (the first European language to be spoken in NL). Join me as I chat with several folks about the current situation in Iceland.
