Description: This week on "Routes & Branches & Beyond," we spend another show focussing on "west" - the direction, as well as the feel, or the "tug" of the west (or is that more of a "grab" or a "yank?") I have a wheelbarrow of songs and tunes about the various wests of the world - golden, long-gone, blues-inducing, profiteering, and sublime. We start with Bluegrass and end with Scottish acid croft. How do we get there? Through ominous Irish-Americana, plunkin' banjos, pan-celtic noodlings, deep-throated singers who could make a commercial for Fisherman's Friends, ethereal whistles, dusty cowboy tales and utopian yearnings put to heart-wringing tunes.
