Description: Today on New Found Records we remember a man that I regard as one of Newfoundland & Labrador’s finest recording artists ever... a man whose vocals flawlessly compliment his stellar music, a man whose songwriting ranks right up there with the likes of Ron Hynes... some have even compared him to Bruce Cockburn and Leonard Cohen; and his guitar picking compares with locals like Gordon Quinton and Sandy Morris. This man’s music was innovative. If fact, he recorded Newfoundland’s first rock jig... before ‘rock & reel’ records by Red Island, The Wonderful Grand Band, and Figgy Duff. Yet despite his outstanding talent, you may have never heard of this man. That’s why he’s been dubbed “The Unknown Legend”. His name is Jeff White!

Today, to mark the first anniversary of his passing, we present the Jeff White Story. Tune in and you’ll hear how this high school dropout from Corner Brook NF became a force in his hometown’s music scene in the early 1970s. And you’ll hear about his first long playing album Grey Lord, released to rave reviews in 1977. We’ll tell you why he disappeared from the music scene in the early 80s and finally, after a 20 year hiatus, released a follow-up record to Grey Lord.

Guiding us as we explore Jeff’s career today will be his sister, Linda McCarthy. You’ll also hear excerpts from an interview that Jeff’s musical colleague Mark Hussey did with him some years ago. And along the way you’ll hear a generous sampling of Jeff White’s outstanding music.
