Program Title: Fit to Eat Season 2 Episode 15
Description: When you were growing up, did your school guidance counsellor ever take you aside and say, in that helpful guidance-counsellor-kind-of-way, “you know, kid, you should think about becoming a farmer?” If so, you’re lucky, but you’re also unusual. Farming is one of those few essential occupations that don’t always have a clearly-marked career path, nor is it necessarily encouraged. (Kind of like Funeral Directors in that way.) Lots of people who grew up with family in the occupation may stick with it, but it can be hard for others to find their way in. Today we talk with a person who works, every day, with all manner of people who want to become farmers. Join me in a chat with Matthew Carlson, the Young Farmers Coordinator of the NL Federation of Agriculture. You'll also get to hear an old folk blues song about how the taxation of farmers feeds us all. And more.
