Program Title: NewFound Records - Ep. 659 - The Ocean Ranger & Music From 1982 Part 1
Description: Forty years ago on February 15 on the Newfoundland Grand Banks the world’s mightiest oil rig, the Ocean Ranger succumbed to the mightier Atlantic Ocean. All 84 crew perished – 56 of them from Newfoundland. It was Canada's worst tragedy at sea since the Second World War. The aftermath of the disaster spawned many musical tributes including the popular masterpieces “Atlantic Blue” by Ron Hynes & “Your Last Goodbye” by Bruce Moss.

On this episode of New Found Records, we shine a light on some seldom heard tributes from the ‘80s by REG WATKINS & LORETTA CORMIER, ALLISTON ROBERTS, ‘The Singing Policeman’ - DOMININC D’ARCEY, and MURRAY MCLAUCHLAN. Plus you’ll hear two brothers CHRIS WILLIAMS & URBAN WILLIAMS, who lost their father in the tragedy, sing their recently penned “Heroes of the Ocean Ranger”.

You’ll also hear more music from 40 years ago as we kick off our three week mini-series featuring local records that first dropped in 1982.
