Program Title: Canada Out of Afghanistan
Description: On Wednesday, september 19th, Canada's minister of foreign affairs and international trade, Maxime Bernier, came to Montreal to speak at a conference on Canada's Role in Afghanistan. The event was organized by research groups from Université de Montréal and McGill University, and is
co-sponsored, among others, by defence contractors such as Bell Helicopter, Rheinmetall Defence (Oerlikon), General Dynamics, as well as NATO itself! THe OMNI hotel, which was the site of the conference, was also the site of a solidarity picket, organized by Echec A la Guerre and supported by Block the Empire Montreal. At the picket I had the chance to speak with Raymond Legault, an organizer of Echec a la Guerre. Also at the picket, Gretchen King had the opportunity to interview Tamara Habib, an Afghani woman and organizer with an Afghani woman's radio network.
