Program Title: Kosovo declares independence from Serbia
Description: Kosovo declared itself an independent nation on Sunday, despite a refusal from the Serbian government to grant independence to it's province. Legislators in Kosovo unanimously approved the declaration, while Serbian prime minister Vojislav Kostunica responded by calling it's province a "false state", according to CBC news.

Kosovo has been administered by the United Nations and NATO since the Kosovo war ended in 1999; NATO has currently 16,000 troops in Kosovo. Despite UN claims that there has been much progress in the region, the Kosovar population still live with daunting social problems; over 50% unemployment, sub-poverty wages and restrictions on migration.

The following is an interview with Amy Miller, a freelance journalist in Belgrade, working on a documentary exposing the connections between war in the Balkans and Canadian foreign investment. She was in Kosovo weeks previous to the declaration, working with grassroots social organizations.
