Description: Music in a Time of War is a one month residency at CKUT Radio exploring music and politics in the context of the 5th anniversary of the War in Iraq this March.

This first edition of the Sessions we are joined by Iraqi hip hop artist Narcy of Euphrates, the Arab Summit, and now his solo release Illuminarcy. The show starts off with an explosive live set in the CKUT studios featuring never before heard tracks from his new unreleased album. We then sit down for a hip hop perspective on music and politics from the maker of Iraq is the Bomb.
Issues examined on the show:
- The Arab hip hop movement
- The direct and indirect politics of the music industry
- The challenges faced by artists (especially people of color) who deal directly with political themes in their work
- The real significance of puppies being thrown off cliffs
- The N.E.W.S.
- Authenticity, and the importance of spacial localization in hip hop
