Program Title: New Funding Solutions for Development
Description: One of the fundamental issues in international development is how best to finance or fund development. There are many demands .. climate change, affordable food, health, education .. the list of needs is very long. Today we look at a possible solution to financing development and reducing poverty and inequality.

One of the most highly-traded commodities in the world today is currency. It happens on a small scale … every time you take a vacation in a foreign country and go to the currency exchange booth at the airport, you are trading currencies. What we’re looking at today is the same thing .. but on a much larger scale.

The North South Institute has been looking at the feasibility of taxing these transactions as a way to raise money for international development. This half hour program looks at what this idea is all about .. and how it can be implemented as a solution to create a better world.

The North South Institute is a progressive research institute focussing on global justice and social equity. It is based in Ottawa.
