Description: welcome. We go full tilt head first into the 1962 Cuban Missile crisis. With the world on the precipice of nuclear war that would result in the apocalypse of Armageddon, this isn't a movie or a spy novel this is what the Kennedy administration faced for real. The Soviet bloc had risked all of humanity by installing nuclear missiles in a Castro dominated Cuba. Gambling that the US, lead by a young inexperienced President Kennedy, would back down. They were badly mistaken. Kennedy was neither. Kennedy knew it would be reckless to follow his military advisor's advice and attack Cuba, knowing full well it would have escalated into all out nuclear war between the US and the Soviets. But he had a problem: in order to keep the world from disaster, Kennedy now had to figure out how to allow the Soviet premier, Nikita Khrushchev, to save face and supply him with a road map allowing Khrushchev to be the one to now back down and remove the missiles. This would require risks of their own. What thoughts would be formulated into a strategy, and that strategy in turn would have to be clearly articulated in words on paper. The wrong words with the connotation and it was all over. Enter Ted Sorensen. JFK's closest advisor gifted words smith and JFK's speech writer.
This afternoon we join Ted Sorensen with the daunting task of writing a letter, a letter unlike any other letter, for the words contained in that letter would virtually save or destroy the human race.
