Program Title: G8/G20 Coverage: Vijay Prashad, "The Darker Nations: A People's History of the Third World"
Description: As people gear up to protest the G8 and G20 meetings visiting Ontario, there has been a lot of discussion about the impacts of these meetings on Toronto given the costs to security and holding the meetings, as well as the impact of G20 policis on the Canadian economy. But what is the impact of the G20 on the rest of the world, particularly the Third World where many countries receive loans from Canada and institutions like the IMF?

Vijay Prashad joined CHRY host Sharmeen Khan by phone. Prashad is the George and Martha Kellner Chair in South Asian History and Professor in International Studies at Trinity College in Hartford, Conneticut. He has recently written 'The Darker Nations: A People's History of the Third World' where he talks about the Third World Project, and he outlines how the G8 was created to undermine a movement fighting for political equality through the UN.
