Description: This week on "Routes & Branches & Beyond," we start an occasional summer series of shows on the cardinal directions (west, south, east, north). On this show, I start with songs about west. Wherever you are, someplace is further west than you - that's the beauty of the concept of "west." You can always go west. Songs and tunes of the west (in reality and in our imaginations) from celtic punk bands, Irish accordion whizzes, blues crooners, Scottish arena rockers, respectable central Canadian folk trios, earnest East Coast songwriters, Cape Breton kitchen party bands, classic social satirists, Scottish gypsy swing duos and authentic old-timey bands with southern drawls as wide as a racoon in the corn crib. Or something like that.
